Identifier exists (Yes / No) tells Google whether the product has manufacturer-assigned identifiers such as GTIN (UPC/EAN) or MPN


This short article explains what the setting does, where to find it in Nabu Google Shopping Feed app, when to choose Yes or No.


Where to find it in Nabu Google Shopping Feed?


  1. Open a product in Nabu Google Shopping Feed app.
  2. In the product editor, go to Recommended Details → Shopify’s Product identifiers.
  3. You will see fields for GTIN, MPN and the Identifier Exists option with Yes / No radio buttons.
  4. Select the required option and click save.



What “Identifier exists” actually does?

  • Yes = You tell Google this product has manufacturer identifiers. Google will expect (and use) GTIN/MPN/brand values for matching, classification, and product accuracy.
  • No = You tell Google this product does not have manufacturer identifiers. Google will treat the product as lacking manufacturer IDs and will not require GTIN/MPN/brand for matching the same way it would for a product with identifiers.


This is important because Google uses these identifiers to:


  1. Match your product to the correct listing in Google’s catalog.
  2. Improve product classification and search relevance.
  3. Enforce requirements in categories where identifiers are required.


When to choose "Yes"


Choose Yes when the product has manufacturer-assigned identifiers that you can provide:

  1. A valid GTIN (UPC/EAN/ISBN) printed on the product or packaging.
  2. A manufacturer MPN and brand.
  3. Branded, new retail products supplied by a manufacturer or authorized distributor.


Why: If identifiers exist, providing them and setting Identifier exists = Yes helps Google correctly identify your product and improves visibility.


When to choose "No"


Choose No only when the product truly does not have manufacturer identifiers:


  1. Handmade or custom items where the maker did not use GTIN/MPN.
  2. Vintage / used items with no manufacturer barcode.
  3. Merchant-created bundles (a group of products sold together that do not have a single manufacturer GTIN).
  4. Products that are refurbished or resold without original manufacturer identifiers and the identifiers cannot be supplied.


Why: Marking No prevents Google from expecting manufacturer IDs and can reduce disapprovals for items that legitimately lack them.
