How to Get Started with Nabu for Sitemap (Onboarding Guide)
After you install Nabu Sitemap from the Shopify App Store (https://apps.shopify.com/nabu-sitemap), follow the steps below to generate your sitemap and submit it to search engines.
Step 1: Open the app after installation
Once the app is installed, Shopify will redirect you to Nabu Sitemap inside your Shopify admin.
You’ll land on a Welcome screen.
Step 2: Add your Contact Details
In the Contact Details section, enter:
- Full Name
- Email ID
- Phone Number (with country code)
This helps our team reach you quickly if we detect issues with sitemap generation or indexing.
Step 3: Choose what to include in your sitemap
In Sitemap Content Creation, select the content you want search engines to discover.
You can typically choose from:
- Products
- Collections
- Pages
- Blog Categories
- Articles
✅ Tip: If you’re not sure, keep the main ones enabled (Products, Collections, Pages, Articles).
You can update these settings anytime later.
Click Next.

Step 4: Enable the App Embed Block (required)
Next you’ll see the App Embed Block step.

What you need to do
- Click Enable App Embed button (this opens your Shopify theme editor).
- In the theme editor sidebar, go to App embeds
- Find Nabu Sitemap and toggle it ON
- Click Save in the theme editor

Back in the Nabu Sitemap app
- Return to the app tab
- Click Refresh & Confirm
- Once the status shows Enabled, click Continue

Step 5: Generate your sitemap
After enabling the app embed, the app will fetch your store data and create the sitemap.
When it’s done, you’ll see a success message like “Sitemap Generated!”
Click Explore App to go to the dashboard.

Step 6: Use the Sitemap Dashboard
On the Sitemap Dashboard, you’ll see two sitemap options:
1) HTML Sitemap
- This is a human-friendly page that shows your links in an organized format.
- You can click View HTML Sitemap to open it.
- There’s also a Refresh option if you want to regenerate.
⚠️ Important: Don’t submit the HTML sitemap link to Google Search Console.

2) XML Sitemap
- This is the search-engine format (best for Google/Bing).
- Click View XML Sitemap to open it.
- Use Refresh if you’ve made changes and want to regenerate.

What happens next?
- Search engines will start crawling your sitemap.
- Indexing can take from hours to a few days depending on the store size and crawl activity.
- Your sitemap will stay updated as your store changes (based on your configuration).
