How to Submit Your XML Sitemap to Google Search Console
Submitting your XML Sitemap to Google Search Console helps Google discover, crawl, and index your Shopify store pages more efficiently.
This guide walks you through the exact steps using Nabu Sitemap.
What is an XML Sitemap?
An XML Sitemap is a search-engine–friendly file that lists all important pages of your store, such as:
- Products
- Collections
- Pages
- Blog posts
Google uses this file to understand your store structure and find new or updated pages faster.
Step 1: Open the XML Sitemap in Nabu Sitemap
- Go to Shopify Admin → Apps → Nabu for Sitemap
- Open the Sitemap Dashboard
- Scroll to the XML Sitemap section
- Copy the XML Sitemap URL shown there
It usually looks like:
https://your-store.myshopify.com/apps/sitemap/index.xml

Step 2: Open Google Search Console
- Visit **Google Search Console: **https://search.google.com/search-console/welcome
- Select your store’s property (Make sure your domain is already verified)
👉 If your store is not verified yet, Google will guide you through verification first.
Step 3: Submit the XML Sitemap
- In the left sidebar, click Sitemaps
- Under Add a new sitemap, enter:```
sitemap/index.xml
(or paste the full XML Sitemap URL)
3. Click **Submit**
✅ You should see a success message confirming the submission.
## Step 4: Check Sitemap Status
After submission, Google will show one of these statuses:
* **Success** – Sitemap was processed correctly
* **Couldn’t fetch** – Temporary issue, usually resolves on retry
* **Errors** – Click the sitemap to see details
📌 It’s normal for Google to take some time before showing indexed pages.

## What Happens After Submission?
* Google will start crawling your sitemap
* New and updated pages are discovered automatically
* Indexing can take **hours to a few days**
* Rankings improve gradually over time (SEO is not instant)
✅ You **do not need to resubmit** the sitemap every time your store changes.
Nabu for Sitemap App keeps it updated automatically. You can click on Refresh button to regenrate the XML content within the app.
## FAQs
### Do I need to submit the sitemap again after updates?
No. Google will re-crawl the sitemap automatically when it detects changes.
### Why are some pages not indexed yet?
Possible reasons:
* Pages are new
* Low crawl priority
* Duplicate or thin content
* Google hasn’t crawled them yet
This is normal and usually resolves over time.
